Tofu that tastes good? YUP!

I originally borrowed this book and after trying a few of the recipes, just had to have it. I couldn't believe that tofu could taste this good! Anyone can use this book and even disquise tofu so your "No I would never eat that friends" can be tricked into changing their minds! Give it a shot!

Great easy recipes

I really like this cookbook. The recipes taste great and are often acceptible for non vegetarians as well. I love that they are easy to make and use ingredients that I usually have on hand.

There are some minor annoyances with the bi-cultural aspect of the cookbook. The author tries to make the book suitable for both British and American English speakers, and this results in 1 chili (chilli) etc. On the other hand: I really like the fact that the author gives both metric and imperial measurements and says that you can use them interchangeably. I like to measure some things in tablespoons/cups and other things in grams. This cookbook is the only one that lets me do that.

This is truly a recipe book, not a book that goes into great detail about nutrition and vegetarianism. The recipes, with the exception of the desserts, are healthy, using whole foods. You can usually easily reduce the oil and/or salt to make them even more healthy. I do wish the author would use more vegetables, or give options to make meals richer in vegetables by listing possible vegetable side dishes.

I highly recommend this cookbook if you want to use more tofu in your diet. If ingredients like "sea salt" put you off and you do not think to just use regular salt instead, this cookbook may not be for you though.

Great book!

I found this book at a used book store for $2...best $2 I've ever spent. I enjoyed many of the recipes in this cookbook. I use it weekly!
The author divides her recipes into sections by region, for example, there is a "mexican", "Indian", and "british/american" section. I found the division helpful when planning my meals. Also there are desserts!
The author suggests sides to accompany some dishes as well, to make the meal more substantial.
The only downside I saw was there were some items of which I was unfamiliar, such as yeast extract (Marmite) and nutritional yeast. I've since learned how to substitute for such items, as I am not vegan and do enjoy cheese (which is what she uses nutritional yeast for). Also she talks about soy products a lot...I usually just substitute with dairy (soy milk=regular milk).
The author is British (?), so she refers to some items by different names; however she does make a good attempt at translating for us.
Overall, I am pleased with this cookbook and would recommend it to anyone curious about tofu or (like me) just wanting an alternative to an all-meat all the time dinner. My husband is a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy, and even he will eat a majority of these recipes.
And if you or someone you know is vegan, this would be the perfect book as the recipes are completely animal-free.
