ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A very enjoyable Christmas novella

I really enjoyed this Christmas novella based on the Tara Holloway series. If there is any chance of getting into trouble Tara is sure to find a way to do it. I really like how Diane Kelly's characters have such a wonderful sense of humor that you will find yourself laughing out loud quite often, so I recommend that you make sure you are not in a place where you need to be quiet when you read any of her books. If you are a fan of Stephanie Plum you will really enjoy reading about Tara Holloway!
IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway has to investigate a case right before Christmas that involves a jewelry store owner who has claimed too many losses due to thefts from her warehouse on her taxes over the past few years. To prove whether Nadine Gramercy was really robbed or did the stealing herself Tara will spend time at the mall where Nadine's store is located and going over the receipts in in one of the other stores. While she's there she meets Megan, a police officer who occasionally helps out at the mall with Brigit, her K-9 partner, and she agrees to help Tara if she needs her to make an arrest. As they spend more time together helping each other out Tara also meets Chris, the cute guy playing Santa in the mall, and Charlotte, the store manager of Victoria's Secret. Tara and Megan decide to play matchmaker for Chris and Charlotte who have had their hearts broken enough to keep them from getting involved with someone who just might be perfect for one another. Brigit has decided not to be left out and adds her paws into getting the couple together for Christmas too. Sometimes simple plans do not always go as planned.

Gifted writer that can makes the mall sound so interesting

Death, Taxes, and Mistletoe Mayhem is the first book by Diane Kelly for me to read. This novella is a good introduction to the series. It is a gifted writer that can make a mall so interesting. What ‘s my favorites about this story: the Santa Claus matchmaking romance going on, the humor and sass of Tara and Megan with the dog, Brigit, the mystery that is intriguing without being dark or violent. This story did however make me forget that never ending to do Christmas list. Great stress reliever to just sit back and enjoy Tara.

Tara is an IRS criminal investigator and her boss assigns her a case. It's Christmas and Tara would rather be shopping but she gets on with the job. She's investigating a jewelry wholesaler who has had a serious of mysterious robberies. Tara discovers a clue and poses as an auditor in a jewelry store in a mall to dig through their files. There she meets Megan and her K-9 partner, Brigit, who agrees to be back-up in case Tara needs it.
In the meantime, the hunky Santa in the mall is recovering from being jilted by his ex-fiancée. The woman who runs the Victoria Secret store is recovering from a recent divorce. There are sparks between them but they won't act on it so it's up to Tara and Megan to bring them together.
This is a novella (#6.5) in the Tara Holloway series. I've read all seven novels (so far) in this series and have enjoyed them (it's the ninth book I've read by this author). I liked the writing style ... it was funny and sarcastic. And because it's a novella, it's a quick read. It works as a stand alone as there was enough information so you know what's going on. Plus because it's a novella, it doesn't get into a lot of detail.
This book is written in first person perspective from three points of view ... Tara's, Megan's and Brigit's. And yes, it works. It's especially funny when it's Brigit's perspective. It is an introduction to Megan and Brigit who were featured in their own novel early this year, Paw Enforcement, which I read and enjoyed ... it was how I discovered the author in the first place and since become a fan. I liked Tara, Megan and Brigit working together.
