JB Lynn's my new favorite

I picked up this book because I had just finished JB Lynn's other book, Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman, and was literally craving more. While The First Victim is not at all the same genre as the other book, I still enjoyed the author's style and am glad to add this one to my collection. The storyline is somber, creating suspense, mystery and thrill, but is laced with a bit of romance that keeps you hoping the heroine will pull through in the end -- and finish happily every after with her highschool crush. I loved it. It was a good read while waiting for the second in the Hitwoman series (which has more humor and light-heartedness).

Great read for mystery/suspense lovers!

The First Victim is a captivating mystery that will probably make your skin crawl and your teeth hurt occasionally. I know it did mine. The author, J.B. Lynn created a decidedly evil killer, and at times gets a bit graphic in the details of what the killer does. It's not horribly over the top, though, not any worse than most crime tv shows.

The book flows well, I read it in one evening. I had to find out what happened! I will toot my own horn to say that I did figure out who the killer was, but I didn't realize how he/she fit in the story until the very end. There are lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing, I suspected everyone at one time or another. This novel will be a favorite for mystery/suspense fans!

Nothing special

The romance was blah, very boring with no chemistry. Baily came across as a clueless loser and Emily as a neurotic hag most of the time. I realize she went through a horrible ordeal, but the woman's afraid of her own shadow. And her decision at the end? Totally did not buy it considering how she felt about that town and everyone in it. As for the suspense----the issues she had with her father were never explored or explained, but maybe that's a good thing since there was so much family drama in this book anyway. And the revelation of who the kidnapper was.....well, let's just say really? In all these years, no one in that town could put 2 and 2 together and come up with something besides 5? Then again, no one could figure out that all these "accidents" happening at once were suspicious. The only good thing this book had going for it was it was fairly short so I only wasted one day of my life on it.

Wonderful New Book

Randy Pennington's new book is such a great read...helpful...loaded with insights...and the kind of book that really makes you reflect on how you are handling change right now. His take on how trust plays into the dynamics of change really rattled my brain a bit and made so many past people encounters replay in the movie in my head. This sensational book is a nifty blend of stories and principles and will help any business person deal with the major shifts that are inevitable in business. If I were you, I'd buy one for yourself and a couple more for your close friends.

This book does what so few books do, moves past tired clichés and overly simplified solutions and provides a real world view of how change works in the real world. The clear and compelling insights will help all of us navigate change and actually do something with "it." It is particularly helpful if you want to understand how change can move you and the organization forward quickly without getting bogged down in mindless evaluation. Read it and apply it!

Randy has done it again. Making Change Work is without question the most practical, principled, and powerful book I've read on managing change in the past 20 years...and I read them all! Nimble + Relevant + Engaged = the perfect combination for leading transformational change at any level, within any organization. Chapters 2, 12, & 14 are by themselves worth the investment. Excellent work Randy. Only wish I had written this :-)
