Eckstorm was the daughter of a fur trader living in Maine who published six books and many articles on natural history, woods culture, and Indian language and lore. Fannie Hardy Eckstorm and Her Quest for Local Knowledge, 1865–1946 reveals an important story which speaks directly to contemporary issues as historians of science, social science and humanities begin to re-evaluate the nature, content, and role of indigenous and folk knowledge systems. Eckstorm's life and work illustrate the constant tension between local lay knowledge and the more privileged scientific production of academics that increasingly dominated the field from the early twentieth century. At the time Eckstorm was writing, the growth in professionalism and eclipse of the amateur led to a reorganization of knowledge. As increasing specialization defined the academy, indigenous knowledge systems were dismissed as unscientific and born of ignorance. Eckstorm recognized and lauded the innate value of traditional knowledge that could, for example, fell trees in the interior of Maine and ship them internationally as finished lumber.

Appropriate for Interns, or Resident Doctors and other Clinicians in the field

This is my third MOTM publication in this series of guides.
I must say I really liked the layout; it is nicely colour coded, visuals in terms of diagrams, pictures and flow charts, the sections are easy to navigate, so that the would-be reader is able to zero in on the areas of interest quickly, considering its size the book is packed with the relevant information, with added cover for pre and post operative care of patients. A text that is good for those on the move.

The only negative I see in this book is the down loadable apps side of things; it was not as intuitive to set up as one would hope and the need to ask the reader for excessive private data was a turn off. I did not like these elements and believe that it could have been done better. This a good book for revision, and covers key areas of interest for the student, as it is well summarised.

Adding to this analysis is the powerful role the media has played in the raucous political brawl between congress and the president. Nevertheless, Rucker argues obstructionist behavior of congress fails to curtail the re-election of President Obama to a second term. She fervently points out the changing demographics and a "new civil rights movement" were essential factors conservatives did not take into consideration.

About the Author

Dr. Ginger Levin, PMP, PgMP, and a certified OPM3 Professional is a consultant and educator in portfolio, program, and project management and has conducted numerous maturity assessments over the past 20 years. She has 46 years of experience working in the private sector, the U.S. Federal Government, and in consulting and training. She is an Adjunct Professor at the master’s degree level in project management for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and at the doctoral level for SKEMA University in Lille, France and RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. She holds a doctorate in public administration from The George Washington University, where she also received the outstanding dissertation award. Dr. Levin is the editor, author, or co-author of 13 books and is an active member of the Project Management Institute.

J. LeRoy Ward, PMP, PgMP, and CSM is the Executive Vice President of ESI International, where he is the principal executive responsible for R&D, Product Strategy, Consulting, and Corporate Marketing.
